Natural lighting with an open airy floor plan contributes to improved employee health. All inhabited areas receive natural light and ventilation which is atypical for a work bay in a Research and Development facility. The openness of the plan eliminates any corridors and provides for more natural light in every area. All the windows in the workspaces are operable (except in areas where products need to be protected from contamination). New product off-gassing is reduced by using recycled materials which also promotes employee air quality. The radiant floor heating provides the most comfortable, efficient and safest heating system based on the optimum heating curve for the human body; the feet are warmed to 85 degrees while the head is at 67 degrees. There are ten heating and cooling zones with personally controlled thermostats so that the individual can control his own comfort level. There is one fresh air supply unit designated to bring in the outside air.
