Geothermal HVAC

This Project is located at the Plum Brook Space Power Facility (SPF) Office Building in Sandusky, Ohio. The SPF supports testing for the project areas of Crew Exploration Vehicle, Service Module, and Command Module. It also supports highly sought-after reimbursable testing projects such as parachute testing, payload testing and houses the world's largest vacuum chamber.

NASA Plumbrook wanted to install a ground source heat pump system to service this mission-critical facility's second-floor office area. The new HVAC system provided a closed-loop system that included 20 vertical bore heat exchanger tubes located in an open field in front of the existing building.

Our team advocated the reuse and rehab of existing materials throughout this project. We also applied LEED green principles to minimize demolition debris bound for the landfill, decrease transportation demands, and salvaged material where it was feasible; LEED certification was not a requirement.
