Laboratory Renovation

Construction Budget: $2,700,000

Saginaw, Michigan

A laboratory on the second floor of the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center needed to be renovated to accommodate a series of operational areas. This renovation encompassed three areas, the main lab, phlebotomy area, and microbiology lab. Expanding these functions on the existing floor wasn’t an option, and outdated and undersized mechanical systems needed to be upgraded immediately to better service these areas. We proposed a new plan to renovate the current lab and shuffle the Phlebotomy area to the Microbiology Lab and relocate the lab to the Radiology Filing Room. By reprogramming the floors, we could free up 300 sq. ft. of space for the main lab expansion.

Other modifications included replacing the existing HVAC and rerouting ducts from the 4th-floor roof to the 2nd-floor lab to increase ventilation.
