Beckley VA MRI Suite & Emergency Department Addition

BECKLEY VA MEDICAL CENTER, DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS

MRI Suite & Emergency Department Addition

Construction Budget: $5,000,000

Beckley, West Virginia

The first part of this project involved building a new Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Suite near the existing Radiology on the Beckley VA Medical Center's second floor. The second project was an expansion of the Emergency Department on the first floor. To support this addition, it was necessary to build-out a new basement to house the mechanical system. Along with the addition and interior modifications, a site plan was also developed to determine the potential available ground space to maximize the footprint for the proposed approximately 2,300 sq. ft. expansion.

The Emergency Department expansion added nearly 2,064 sq. ft. of functional space for a Life Support area, observation/treatment rooms, nurse's station, isolation rooms, registration area, waiting room, radiology room, support areas, offices, and break room. A new ambulatory entrance with a canopy and the reconfiguration of control doors in the waiting area to allow night-time accessibility to ED but secure the remaining hospital entrances were also part of this addition.
